About this deal

The caption that accompanies the image said the new cover "highlights the way Roald Dahl's writing manages to embrace both the light and the dark aspects of life."

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Colour Edition) : Dahl Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Colour Edition) : Dahl

An original song, "Willy Wonka's Welcome Song," is sung by puppets at the factory entrance. The Ooompa-Loompa songs use Dahl's original lyrics, although they have fewer words. Each of the latter is done in a different contemporary musical style. Charlie accompanied by Grandpa Joe; all four bad children accompanied by both their mothers and their fathers. The Oompa Loompas work in the factory. They are not paid. They never leave the factory. That means they don't pay rent. They don't buy groceries. They don't go to the movies, or take taxis ,or buy clothes. For those of you who haven't read the book, let me underline this fact for you. Dahl takes pains to really detail the fact that Charlie and his family aren't just hungry and poor. They're destitute. Charlie sleeps on a mattress on the floor. In the winter they are cold, and they're starving to death. Has an elaborate, automated puppet show that bursts into flames (appears unnoticed and applauds after the show).

I cried, she cried, we both cried and laughed and cheered when those nasty, nasty kids got their just deserts. :)Veruca attempts to get a squirrel after Wonka refuses to sell one to her father. The squirrels reject her as a "bad nut" and throw her down the garbage chute. Slightly odd story of virtuous poverty rewarded by the evil capitalist who caused the poverty by firing all his workers in favour of employing non-human immigrants. At once old and young, wise and seemingly naïve, Willy Wonka is a complex liminal figure of the kind that so often appear in fairy tales – and therefore he is the perfect guide to take the children, and us, into the world that he has created.

Their individual ages are not given; however, Grandpa Joe says that all together, their ages total 381. Instead I shall simply say that Gene Wilder dominated his performance as Willie Wonka. He carried all the outward charm, the charisma and the playfulness, but still managed to portray the suggestions of darkness that permeate this character’s heart. Wonka is far from a good man, though this book remains excellent and an extended allegory for many things.

Lately, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been the subject of many headlines because it is frequently on the banned books list.

Process of using whips shown; a cow is suspended by straps from the ceiling while being whipped by several Oompa-Loompas. After Charlie correctly tells Wonka that they are making whipped cream, Veruca says it doesn't make sense.Only Mr. Salt and Mr. Teavee are critical of their bad children (though Mr. Salt tries to hide his criticalness from his daughter so her feelings won't be hurt). Mrs. Beauregarde, however, becomes critical of her daughter at the near-end of the film. Ah, those are my Deplorable Mints," said Willy Wonka. "One for every racist, bigot, white supremacist and neo-Nazi in the country! Don't they look delicious!" Charlie with Grandpa Joe; Augustus with his mother, Mike with his father; Veruca with her father; Violet with her mother Alright," said Willy Wonka, clapping his hands. "Look at the book again. Why don't you try reading a bit aloud."
