About this deal

In some domino games, the rules state that the first play must be made by the player with the highest double in his hand. Rules for other games state that the first play must be made by the player with the heaviest domino, double or single, as the case may be. Scoring Games: In scoring games, players get points both during play, depending on how they lay their tiles, and at the end of the round. In a scoring game, the person who reaches a certain number of points wins the game. Loser 2 subtracts the winner's spot total of 3 from 6 = 3 and rounds this to the nearest multiple of 5 which is 5. If it is not a misplay, once a tile is played and a player takes his hand off the tile, it may not be taken up by the player. Loser 1 subtracts the winner's spot total of 3 from 11 = 8 and rounds this to the nearest multiple of 5 which is 10.

All doubles are placed vertically, and the total value of both ends of doubles are used when scoring. The first double is the only spinner. In many domino games, a line of tiles is formed on the table as players make their plays, usually, but not always, by matching the pips on the open end of the domino. This formation of tiles is called the line of play. There are basic instructions listed here under Line of Play specifically for those games. Cuban Dominoes is a partner game. Partners are usually chosen at random using any method the players want. A Double-Six set of dominoes and a convenient way to record points. A cribbage board makes scoring easier, but a pencil and paper work almost as well. The Set Up:

Games can also be played in the same way with two players (start with 8 tiles), three players (start with 6 tiles), five players (start with 5 tiles) or with four players without partnership. Heaviest Tile: Follow the instructions above for "Highest Double" with this exception: Instead of drawing new hands if no player holds a double tile, the player holding the heaviest single begins play. The first person to play is that person holding the double-six, or failing that the double-five and so on. The tile played must be the double tile that permitted the player to take the first turn. If none of the players hold a double, then the tiles are reshuffled and re-drawn. If both pairs of partners reach or exceed the winning number, the partners closer to the actual number (the one with the lower total) wins.

Cutthroat games are usually played to 61 points, while winners need 100 or more points when playing with partners. The Common Variations: In the US and Europe, most players prefer using Double Sixes, but Double Nines are the dominoes of choice in many Caribbean countries. Some domino games end once a certain number of hands have been played or a player or team makes the necessary points to win. For many other domino games, the object of the game is to be the first player (or team) to dispose of all the dominoes in your hand. These domino games end when a player has played all the dominoes in his hand before the other players and announces, "Domino." In a common 28 domino set, also called Double-Sixes, there are 7 different number values; one to 6 spots plus blanks. Winner of the Last Game: The winner of the last game played may open the next game. Or, if a game ends in a tie, the player who placed the last tile plays the first tile in the next game.Handed: The number of players. It is written as x-handed game; a four-handed game has four players. Playing games (like with these club domino cards) is a chance for children to have fun and be competitive. This can be harnessed to help children improve important maths skills, which in turn helps them to master different numeracy topics during their primary school education.

The origin of the name ‘dominoes’ has puzzled many players throughout the years. No one knows for sure when or how dominoes got their name. Given the last example, if a tile is now played on the 5-5, assuming it is not a spinner, the 5-5 is no longer an end for the purpose of counting. See the example below. The line of play is 3-5, 5-5, 5-1, and the count is 4 (3+1). If the 5-5 is not a spinner in this case, the 5-5 is not an end. Dominoes are joined to the line of play in two ways: 1) with the line of play, lengthwise, the dominoes played end to end; or, 2) across the line of play, crosswise, the dominoes played across the matching number. In most domino games, doubles, and only doubles, are played crosswise; singles are played lengthwise, and the next tile is added after each double played, if the double is not a spinner, must be lengthwise. Players may choose to take turns shuffling before each game or the same player may shuffle the dominoes before each game. Here is a rule variation that players may agree to employ: Anytime a player plays a double, whether for the opening of the game or anytime thereafter during the game, he may immediately play a second tile onto his double before the next player makes his play. For scoring, some pubs would play a point per game. A more interesting method, that might be scored using a cribbage board, has the winners score the sum of all spots on the losers remaining tiles. In a game which doesn't result in anyone chipping out, the winners would receive the difference between the winners total spots and the losers total spots. A game can be played to 100 points, say, or on a cribbage board, 121 points.

The children's version of the classic game of Dominoes. Provided with picture instead of (or as well as) numbers to allow pre-readers to play. This is a catch-all entry for the game system where the traditional numbers or pips on dominoes are replaced with pictures (giving roughly the same effect as the traditional game, though without numbers, scoring removed as a game element). Here are two of several options: 1) The player to the right of the player making the first play does the shuffling for a game; or, 2) The winner of the previous game shuffles for the next game. The points awarded to the winner are doubled if the last domino is any double, or the final domino could have been played at either end of the train. Since your opponent’s score is based on the value of the tiles in your hand at the end of the round, lay down your heaviest tiles first. The player with the heaviest double lays down first. Doubles do not act as spinners, but are still played vertically.
