About this deal

Indigo and I were the Otherworld, and the Otherworld was us, and for as long as we lived, it would live too. Then the Bridegroom feels something in his mouth and pulls out a bracelet of hair, a tooth hanging from it, with the letter A engraved into it. Bestseller Chokshi makes her adult debut with a lush and haunting modern fairy tale about the nature of friendship and love…Chokshi’s prose overflows with metaphor and lavish imagery, adding to the decadent, gothic feel as the mystery of Indigo’s past intensifies.

As much as I love following characters in the first blush of adulthood, time becomes a limiting framework. But sadly, through the veil of the purple prose, I just couldn’t see it – at least not clearly enough to give a full recommendation.

Of all the things fairy tales demanded I should believe - dogs with eyes as big as saucers, maidens felled by spindles, queens who do not remove red-hot iron shoes and dance in them until they die - this is the only thing that stretches credulity.

When I think about fairy tales and myths and why we need them in the first place, it's often because it's seeking to explain the unexplainable.

Within this huge mansion lie plenty of secrets, and the man finds himself unable to resist the urge to know the secrets of his bride. Her feelings are pretty much the same as both of us expected a lot more from this reputed Indian author. And to be fair, Chokshi has written the novel in a style that is appropriately lush and surreal, creating an atmospheric reading experience that fuzzes dream and reality.Transformation is always a critical component of fairy tales and locations like a castle or forest tend to provide the catalyst for them. The House of Dreams, which is the setting for much of the plot, is a prominent character in The Last Tale of the Flower Bride .

One of our favourite questions here on the Fantasy Hive: which fantastical creature would you ride into battle and why?And that encapsulates one of the central relationships in the story, which is the friendship of Indigo and Azure.
