Find out the answers to all the questions you have about Eco Solutions Artex & Textured Coatings Remover here. Customer Question: Most DCM-free paint strippers have just replaced one hazardous solvent with another, but Eco Solutions patented technology removes the hazardous solvent content and replaces it with water. The best way to apply is with a paintbrush and a wide one if used on large areas. Other people have used a roller in the past but don’t think you will get a good enough even application. Also, follow this link for more advice on removal – https://www.ecosolutions.co.uk/science-not-solvents-how-to-remove-artex-safely/ Customer Answer:

My experience is that it’s equivalent to a basic paint stripper. I cut a hatch pattern in my Artex with a Stanley knife, then applied a generous coating of this and then waited 30 minutes. Then re-wet it by spraying water over it, then started scraping. It’s fairly hard work. You don’t need to replaster depending on how good a plastering job is underneath, but you will need to fill any gouges from stripping. If you scrape anything that’s dry, stop. Re-wet with water, let it sit for 5 minutes and start again. You don’t want any dust. Use a heat gun: It’s possible to strip paint from wood by melting it, and a heat gun is the tool you need to do that. If you hold a heat gun at a 45-degree angle to the area you’re trying to strip, you should be able to loosen it. Of course, this is a dangerous option, so you need to be careful. Before using either of the above items it’s always worth practicing for a while to get used to the intensity of the flame/heat settings and also how fast a surface is heated and how long the heat source can remain in one place before it causes and scorching or damage.Which ever of the above methods you have used, once you have removed all of the paint it is always a good idea to clean over the surface with some fine wire wool or very fine sandpaper. A heat gun works by softening and loosening the varnish making it easier to remove. It is surprising but a heat gun doesn’t scorch the wood or surface you are removing the varnish from, however, when you have used the heat gun to soften the varnich which is time-consuming you then also have the task of scraping the varnish to remove. Home Strip™ is a revolutionary unique patented water-based paint stripper using science not solvents that is safer to its user and the environment than conventional hazardous solvents. Home Strip® awarded Millenium Products Status for creative and innovative products for the Millennium.

Leave the Home Strip on the surface for about 40 minutes and then test a small area to see if the paint is ready to come off. The scraper you use should simply slide under the paint or varnish and a little elbow grease may be needed. The video shows an extensive test where we tried to remove 4 coats of paint in one go but by applying a little less Home Strip and being a bit more patient, you can remove the 4 coats in two attempts. Home Strip and Lead Based Paints Once this time is reached test a small area first to ensure that it has worked correctly. The paint should lift away with the paste. Once all the loose paint had been removed it was time for a wash down and also went over the rest of the door with the scouring ball and soapy water to clean the whole surface. Home Strip is totally ph neutral so there is no need to neutralise like you would with a solvent, alkaline or acid based paint remover. If the surface you are working on is wooden this may not be the ideal solution as obviously it involves the use of water and thus the water will be absorbed by the wood making it swell so before re-painting can commence you will have to give it plenty of time to dry out.

Coatings with textured surfaces can be easily removed using our X-Tex Artex Remover utilising a working wet system which makes it safe to do. It is easier to remove it with a long-handled blade scraper, as it helps lift it from the surface, rather than spreading it around the wall. When you’re certain that stripping paint from wood will be worth your while, apply a liberal layer of paint stripper to the wood using a roller or brush. Make sure that you cover all areas of the paint, including any nooks and crannies. You may need to use smaller brushes for this.

This old garage door was in need of restoration and some TLC. It was very difficult in sourcing a new door given the width of the opening as this was quite an old garage. If you mean just plasterboard without plaster on it then yes it has been used many times in this instance. Care does have to be taken though when you get down to that surface not to be over-aggressive as you can damage the paper surface. Customer Question: Although the paint stripper gets to work instantly, you’ll need to wait around 30 minutes before you start to see real change. You may notice the paint starting to peel away from the wood or maybe even bubble on the surface. One single application can remove up to five layers using this method. Removal can be made easier using a bowl of soapy water and a stainless steel scouring ball, especially on intricate pieces. Use of soapy water and a stainless steel scouring ball also can remove stains from the grain effectivley. On dead flat areas a scraper is advisable to remove lose material first.
