If the metal was already painted, wash down thoroughly with diluted detergent, rinse with clean water and allow to dry. Spray a test patch of Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint onto painted surfaces and leave for 1 hour.

Remember to use a brush that is reflective of the size of the object you’re painting. For example, use a narrow brush for painting railings, or a larger one for a bigger metal object, such as a table.

A. Yes, Hammerite has been special formulated to be applied directly to rust as it contains special anti-corrosive pigments that stop the formation of rust. Because of this you don't even need to apply an undercoat or primer. A. Primer or undercoat is not needed before using Hammerite paint, but it is important to ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, dirt, grease or flaking paint. For Bare Zinc, aluminium and galvanised surfaces firstly apply Hammerite Special Metals Primer. Shake can vigorously, in a vertical motion, until the agitator ball is heard and then for a further 3 minutes.

On bare zinc, aluminium and galvanised surfaces, apply Hammerite Special Metals Primer before applying Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint.Apply light even coats, from a distance of approximately 15cm (6 inches) and keep the aerosol moving. Do NOT concentrate spray in one spot. Paint must be stirred well before use and applied using a brush or roller. If using more than one can of colour in the same area, mix the cans before use. Do not apply in temperatures below 10°C or in damp conditions.

If the metal was already painted, wash down thoroughly with diluted detergent, rinse with clean water to ensure there’s no soapy residue left.
