About this deal

I think that history of this book was quite realistic and it made me want to learn more about history.

The description in this book is by far the most endearing part and it provides a platform for the rest of the novel to build on. Millwood is very good on keeping the book to historical realism with also giving it an easy way to understand it. Furthermore to this, some basic information such as the time in which the story is set, is missing, this perhaps is a source of disorientation for the reader. The history in the book was not realistic as in the book it says the houses were made in a day and that's not really possible. Felicity Kerswell, age 14 - 'At the start I was unsure if I would like this book but as the story progressed and you found out more about the characters it grew on me and by the end I was crying. Also, the book made me want to read more as the story really hooks you in and make you feel like you are in the book and it makes you imagine that you are speaking to the characters and listening to their problems and thoughts. I particularly enjoyed the ending chapters when Amihan and her amiable companions are eventually reunited.

Major highlights of the book are how Hargraves very effectively (through use of providential and humorous situations) explored the themes in the book. Set in the Philippines at the beginning of the last century, Ami lives with her mother on Culion Island. It is a good historical fiction and alot of people can learn how lepers were treated from this book. The use of Filipino words and phrases throughout was something I was especially glad the author decided to include.

If this book sounds like it may interest you, then I'd highly recommend checking out The Girl of Ink and Stars, which is her equally beautiful debut novel. When the murderous hostility of the Russian Army threatens her very existence, Feo is left with no option but to go on the run.Kiran lives in Oxford with her husband, the artist Tom de Freston, and the fulfilment of one of her earliest ambitions: their cat, Luna.

Asha’s quest across India to find her father brings her into danger before love, faith and friendship finally provide a happy ending. Following the arrival of Mr Zamora, a sinister government official and the decree that all healthy children must leave the island, Ami is banished to an orphanage. The book did want to make me read on from this author, because she really thought about it, the description was fantastic and you could really get a cllear picture of everything in your mind. Shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards and the Blue Peter Book Awards 2017 From the author of the bestselling tale The Girl of Ink and Stars comes a beautiful new adventure about finding your way home.In addition to our Lovereading expert opinion some of our Lovereading4kids Reader Review Panel were also lucky enough to read and review this title. Culian Islands The Phillippines) This book allowed me to see a new world I didn’t know anything about. The historical realism is shown a lot through the way that Amihan talks about the world around her there is no mention of anything that is in the modern world.
