About this deal

For a while life on the farm is good for the animals. But, with Napoleon the pig desperate for power, will the animals get to live the lives that Old Major dreamed for them? The animals work together to make a better life. They create a set of rules to live by called the Seven Commandments . These rules include the idea that "All animals are equal". The animals rebuild it but it is then blown up by the neighbouring farmers who hate the idea of animals successfully running their own farm. As you can see, there are many options for helping your class understand farms and animals. What are farm animals? Old Major is admired by most of the other animals. His dream of a better life inspires them to take control of the farm.

Animal Farm is an allegory which means it has a hidden, more complex meaning. In this case, the hidden meaning is about Orwell's views on the Russian Revolution. He shows how those in power can be corrupt and can oppress the people they're supposed to help. Orwell also shows how those in power can use propaganda, lies and rumoursTo maintain their power, the pigs use various forms of propaganda that they spread throughout the farm. As they read the book, students recorded these instances of political propaganda, along with how the pigs used the propaganda to control other animals.

The new leaders are pigs called Napoleon and Snowball. The animals change the name from Manor Farm to Animal Farm and agree Seven Commandments for a better life. Then, the humans try to regain control, but they are defeated in the Battle of the Cowshed. In this money-saving bundle you get a poster of each of the following characters: Squealer, Snowball, Napoleon, Old Major, Mr Jones, Boxer, Mollie, Benjamin, and Moses. Looking for more great resources to help your class with their understanding of farms and animals? The Printable Farm Posters are just one option for supporting your class. There are plenty of other great learning materials to choose from. For example:

Task your class with visualising what a farm looks like by using the At The Farm I See Writing Frame. The animals at Manor Farm are unhappy. Farmer Jones treats them harshly and they've had enough. Old Major, a respected pig, reveals his dream: a vision of a fairer life where the animals are in charge. Then, Old Major dies peacefully and, inspired by his vision, the animals take over the farm. The posters work equally well printed in A4 or A3, and you could even miniaturise them further to serve as individual GCSE revision resources. Boxer , a hard-working horse, collapses from exhaustion. Instead of looking after him and thanking him for his loyalty, the pigs arrange for him to be sent to a horse slaughterer . They profit from his death. A wise pig, Old Major , inspires the animals to dream of a better future . One night, the animals angrily take control of the farm and chase Mr Jones away.
