About this deal

to allow the filter to dry as this resets the fibres in the filter media, making filtration more effective when the filter is put back into your hot tub. When you have test strips that can test both bromine and chlorine, simply follow the instructions for bromine readings on the tube.

The frequency of water changes should reflect the degree of use of the hot tub, as well as the results of chemical testing. The Freeze Shield™ is a built-in feature to the pump, and is activated so long as there is a power supply to the unit. Bromine will not be present in the water until it has been shocked, which is what converts the bromide into bromine. Chlorine is a sanitiser that controls and prevents bacteria growth and is essential for the hot tub water to be clean and safe to use. Without shock, you’d have to continually add massive amounts of everyday sanitizer, which is unrealistic and costly. In this instance the filters may clog up within three–four days because of the small particles contained in tap water and any particles from manufacturing/transport. In short, using chemicals to maintain water hygiene in your wooden hot tub allows you to keep the same bathing water for longer.

This will remove any dirt/debris and loosen any calcium from the pipe work, which will then be washed away withthe drained water. If the water begins to get cloudy, either from pollutants, or from too much calcium in the water, a surefire way to clear it up is by adding a dose of shock to the tub. You can usually control how much water comes into contact with the tablets, and therefore how quickly they dissolve. Developed with Lay-Z-Spa in mind, the range of ClearWater® hot tub chemicals includes everything needed to make sure your Lay-Z-Spa's water stays safe, clean and clear. If chemical levels have fallen far outside the normal ranges, or if you experience a dramatic loss of water quality, it is recommended that the water is completely replaced and re-treated and tested again before use.

Chlorine or bromine-based products, as well as copper and bronze are not compatible with PHMB and should not be mixed. We recommend shocking your hot tub before first use, anytime the water is replaced, after periods of heavy use, at signs of slime or algae or after a loss of clarity or water quality. The number of bathers, water hardness and other outside materials such as mud, grass, and leaves will all affect chemical requirements. However, to maintain a consistent chlorine level you will need to implement a schedule for adding granules to the water, which could become a hassle if you use your spa regularly.Verdict: For most Lay-Z-Spa users multifunctional tablets are an excellent way to maintain healthy chlorine levels, however, when shock dosing or setting up your spa chlorine granules can be more useful as the chlorine level can be raised more rapidly.

Re-test the water again in approximately two hours to see if the level has been raised sufficiently. So, if you're trying to measure bromine levels and there is no reading, make sure you have added shock to the water.A floating bromine dispenser is the easiest way to keep your spa's bromide levels topped up between water changes. As a guide - a hot tub of 1,000 litres requires 18g to raise Total Alkalinity levels by 10ppm (parts per million). You can shock dose your water using Happy Non Chlorine Shock, Relax Oxidise Sachets or Shock Gems® which offer a simple pod formula to throw into your hot tub!
