It was refreshing, touching, and so nice to read how his love for Ana conquered some of his darker years by letting her light and love conquered his heart.He finds humor where he would usually be irritated, and he sees possibility even though he knows he has no business pursuing her. His world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. It is not every day that an author has a chance to recast a polarizing character, and James works hard to do that. The book's erotic nature and perceived demographic of its fan base as being composed largely of married women over thirty led to the book being dubbed "Mommy Porn" by some news agencies. He has secrets that he cannot share with Anastasia because they would scare her away, and he is too selfish to let her go.
