They're much more compact than traditional upright vacuums, so they're easier to maneuver—and you don't have to worry about finding an outlet before you start cleaning. The biggest disadvantage of cordless vacuums is that they can only run for so long before they need to be charged. Of course, the battery life varies depending on the settings. Higher settings (like max modes) give you some "extra power for carpeting," according to Morse. But they'll drain the battery much faster than lower settings (which are sufficient on bare floors). To measure noise level, we used a decibel reader with the cordless vacuum on both high and low settings and noted their findings. We also weighed each vacuum with a luggage scale attached to the handle.
