About this deal

There’s Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for automatically putting the TV into its Game mode when it detects a gaming signal, while the HGiG standard improves HDRtone-mapping for a more consistent performance. I did notice more detail in the darker parts of an image than I remember seeing before.

The 4K TVs with the best viewing angle - Which? News

To be more specific, AI Picture Pro can now recognise if an incoming image contains scenery, a cityscape or night footage, and locally ‘massage’ parts of the picture to enhance this sort of content’s impact and realism. Plus the new processor can look for skin tones and individual objects in the picture and subtly refine and emphasise them without impacting other areas of the picture. All with a view to creating an image that better reflects the way your eyes see the real world. As with any OLED TV, moreover, it’s also recommended that you treat it with care with respect to bright static image elements to avoid burn-in. For the vast, vast majority of people, this won't be a problem, though. These two improvements instantly help the G1 deliver a more satisfying and ‘complete’ HDR performance than any LG OLED before. They’re supported, too, by a further slight but again important improvement in colours. With video sources this sees relatively pure blue and, especially, red and green tones enjoying both more subtle tonal delineations and a more natural feel. Especially when they’re presented in a bright situation. In broad terms, wireless connectivity is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. More specifically, the LG G1 supports AirPlay 2, built-in Chromecast, WiSA (Wireless Speaker & Audio) and Bluetooth Surround Ready. These differences, along with a slightly richer, more refined HDR-content colour palette, are more consistently noticeable when playing HDR console and PC games than they are with typical video. The LG G1 has decent HDR peak brightness. This is where the evo panel provides an improvement from the LG GX OLED. Although it's one of the brightest OLEDs available, the replacement model, the LG G2 OLED, is even brighter. It gets bright enough to make small highlights stand out, but once again, it has an aggressive ABL, so large areas are dimmer. The EOTF follows the target curve pretty well until there's a sharp roll off at its peak brightness, but some dark scenes are slightly too dark. For ultimate detail, in all environments, this LG OLED features Dolby Vision IQ. Dolby Vision IQ version uses data within the signal and light sensors inside the TV to adjust the picture quality for the best contrast. This improves the picture’s brightness, without ‘washing out’ the depth. You get a consistent picture quality, however light or dark your room is. Whether you’re watching a brightly lit sports event or moody movie, Dolby Vision IQ adjusts to suit. If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.

LG G1 OLED Review (OLED55G1PUA, OLED65G1PUA, OLED77G1PUA)

We changed the subtype from WRGB to WOLED as it's more accurate and more consistent with other TVs.So, are the G1 and its OLED Evo panel genuinely better than LG’s previous OLEDs? The answer is a resounding yes. Dolby Vision is coming to Xbox Series X and S video gaming later this year too, bolstering LG OLED’s already pretty legendary reputation with high-end gamers. Filmmaker mode preserves the creative intent of films and TV shows by disabling motion processing and other enhancements. It should be noted that Filmmaker mode reflects the environment a film was graded in, so it’s best viewed in darker rooms. FMM works across SDR, HDR10 and HLG formats. Watching the scene in 1917 (HDR10) where Lance Corporal Schofield runs across the field and there’s that slightly odd, fake cardboard 3D effect – the effect that plagued Ang Lee’s earlier high frame rate films – that hurts the naturalism of the G1’s images. Judder is visible with his legs, while the TV also struggles to bind its processing to hand movements. This effect is more noticeable the stronger the processing.

LG OLED65G1 Evo OLED TV review | What Hi-Fi?

We use a variety of scenes and screen measuring images designed to represent certain brightness outputs. This makes sure our tests cover the many different things you can watch on your TV. While it makes sense these days to shift the webOS focus to providing recommended content curated from across supported apps rather than making users explore content on a per-app basis, the layout and 'weighting' of the new home screen doesn't feel quite right. The three link options along the top of the screen in particular feel like they're been given more weight than they really warrant. The luminance changes up between 35 and 55 degrees are quite dramatic, and that's certainly why the full five stars was out of its reach, but it keeps colours consistent. Cinematic Movement seems best suited for films, Natural for broadcast TV, and Smooth Movement for sports. There’s no one-size fits all, so the G1’s motion processing is solid rather than impressive, and for my two cents, still behind the likes of Panasonic and Sony (although I’ve not seen their latest TVs, yet). You can access your webOS TV profile via your smartphone with the NFC Magic Tap app. Even better, NFC Magic Tap lets you mirror content from your mobile to the TV – and not just a single TV. You can mirror content from one TV in your home, to another, using the Room To Room Share function. This lets you view cable or satellite content on multiple screens, without the need for additional set-top boxes. With broadcasts, AI Sound Pro can grate on the ears, and I’d absolutely recommend going through the acoustic tuning process to optimise this mode. Without it, watching Best Home Cook on BBC 2 delivered dialogue that was frequently sibilant and harsh, as if someone were whistling every few words. But there will be some who are drawn to the minimalist, picture frame-like appearance of the G1 and wouldn’t dream of adding a soundbar to this set-up. Those people will simply have to accept that the audio performance will not hit anything like the same cinematic heights as the picture. Verdict For many users and a lot of content, though, I see the much-improved AI Picture Pro system as a pretty irresistible way of adding more drama, sharpness and dynamism to the viewing experience. Alexa also worked with the few requests I lobbed at her – and, conveniently, I could call her up without using the remote. Both OK Google and Alexa were a little tardy in their responses, though. Picture quality The only problem with the AI Sound Pro mode is that it doesn’t accept the limitations of the OLED65G1’s built-in speakers when it comes to bass. As a result, some very deep sounds can succumb to pretty distracting distortions.

LG G1 OLED Evo (OLED55G1) review: Picture perfect | Trusted

LG’s Evo panel maximised OLED’s already impressive picture performance. Brighter and clearer than ever, Evo is a big step up. Now, even Evo has just got better. With this LG 65 inch TV, you get new heat dissipation technology, which makes the picture even brighter than the original Evo screen. For lifelike, brilliant images, the LG OLED65G26LA is simply the best of the best. A record number of people watched England battle valiantly against Italy in the Euro 2020 final and now the Olympics means that many of us are gathering round our telly to see team GB win medal after medal (hopefully). Play content in lower resolutions and standard dynamic range and there’s still much to love about the G1’s delivery. The upscaling of 1080p is particularly impressive, with our Fargo Blu-ray being delivered with crisp definition and bags of detail, but without the intentional film grain being exaggerated as it can be from rival sets. That said, there are instances where stronger TruMotion settings hit the spot. Watching the Spanish F1 Grand Prix on All 4 produced impressively grippy levels, ironing out the wrinkles in the image. With TruMotion off, the stutter of the broadcast was a distraction. Amidst all that breathless praise, the LG G1’s audio performance is a rather qualified achievement. An advantage the Gallery OLED series has over the C series is its audio – its 4.2ch, 60W output is 20W more than the C1 OLED. We tested the SDR brightness after calibration in the 'Expert (dark space, night)' Picture Mode with OLED Pixel Brightness at its max, Peak Brightness on 'High', and Color Temperature set to 'Warm 50'. If you want a slightly brighter image, set the Picture Mode to 'Standard', OLED Pixel Brightness and Contrast to their max, and Auto Dynamic Contrast and Peak Brightness on 'High'. However, we only reached 427 cd/m² in the 2% window using these settings, so it doesn't make the screen much brighter and results in a less accurate image.
